The infuser / medication container pump is a mechanical pump that provides a constant flow rate over time. It includes a balloon containing the medication with the dosage and quantity prescribed by the physician. A filter and clamp are assembled on tubing connected to the pump. Some pump types include a sensor.

Handling the medication contained in the infuser / medication container
It is important to ensure proper maintenance of the infuser / medication container according to the pharmacy's instructions – at room temperature, in the refrigerator or in the freezer.
If the infuser / medication container is kept in the refrigerator – take it out about 1 hour before use (in the summer) / approx 2 hours before use (in the winter)
the infuser / medication container is kept in the freezer– transfer it to the refrigerator approx 24 hours before use, and remove from the refrigerator approx 1 hour before use (in the summer) / approx 2 hours before use (in the winter)
- Do not heat the infuser / medication container – do not place in a microwave oven or in any other heating device.
Checking the infuser / medication container
Verify that your name and ID No. on the infuser / medication container label is correct
Verify that the name of the drug and the dosage specified on the infuser / medication container are consistent with the physician's instructions
Verify the expiration date (always use the infuser / medication container with the closest expiration date)
Verify that the solution is clear
Verify that there is no leakage
Sequence of actions for medication administration
By Connecting to a central catheter/PICC line

Required equipment
A bottle of Alcoxidine (70% alcohol+0.5% Chlorhexidine) (70% + 0.5%)
Syringes for catheter flushing – heparin and/or saline (NaCl 0.9%)

Waste bag
Connection set contain:
- Sterile gauze pads
- Sterile sheet + sterile gloves and mask
Sequence of actions
- Wash your hands with water and soap and dry them
with a clean personal towel or a paper towel.
- Place the equipment on a clean surface
- Wear a mask (in accordance with the policy)
- Spread the sterile sheet
- Open the package of sterile pads without touching the contents, place them on the sterile sheet and pour Alcoxidine on them, prepare a flush syringe alongside the surface
- Open the package of gloves and put them on under sterile conditions
- Disinfect the catheter plug in your arm using a gauze pad soaked in Alcoxidine
- Remove the saline syringe plastic wrap, hold the flushing syringe with a sterile gauze, make sure the syringe and plug are intact and remove the plug from the syringe
- Make sure there is no air in the syringe
1.10 Connect the syringe to the catheter plug (by pressing and rotating)
- Open the clamp (if applicable) and slowly inject the syringe contents
- Close the clamp (if applicable), disconnect the syringe from the
catheter plug by rotating and discard the syringe in the waste bag
- Remove the closing plug at the tip of the medication container tube and connect it to the catheter plug (by pressing and rotating)
Do not touch the exposed equipment
- Open the clamp on the infuser / medication container tube and the clamp on the catheter (if applicable)
- Attach the sensor, if applicable, to your body with adhesive tap
- Place the medication container in the pouch
If treatment duration is 24 hours – repeat the above actions prior the next connection

- Syringes for catheter flushing – heparin and/or saline (NaCl 0.9%)

- Sterile sheet + sterile gloves and mask
- Sterile gauze pads
Sequence of actions
2.1 Wash your hands with water and soap and dry them with a clean personal towel
2.2 Wear a mask (in accordance with the policy)
2.3 Spread the sterile sheet
2.4 Open the package of sterile pads without touching the contents, place them on the sterile sheet and pour Alcoxidine on them, prepare a flush syringe alongside the surface
2.5 Close the clamp on the catheter (if exists)
2.6 Open the package of gloves and put them on under sterile condition
2.7 Hold the infuser / medication container kit with sterile gauze and disconnect it from the catheter plug by rotating
2.8 Discard the infuser / medication container in the waste bag
Do not touch the exposed equipment
2.9 Disinfect the catheter plug using gauze pad soaked in Alcoxidine – three times, using a new pad each time
2.10 Remove the saline syringe plastic wrap, hold the flushing syringe with sterile gauze, make sure the syringe and plug are intact and remove the plug from the syringe
2.11 Make sure there is no air in the syringe
2.12 Connect the syringe to the catheter plug (by pressing and rotating)
2.13 Open the clamp on the catheter (if applicable)
2.14 Slowly inject the syringe contents
2.15 Close the clamp on the catheter (if applicable)
2.16 Disconnect the syringe from the catheter plug by rotating and discard the syringe in the waste baske
2.17 If there are medical instructions to flush with heparin – perform another flush procedure
